Judging by this doctor's quote: "If you use them correctly you're not getting any more nicotine than you would do from a normal cigarette, but you are not getting any of the other nasty chemicals.

"Because this device lights up like a cigarette, looks like one, handles like one and even tastes a bit like one, it can only perpetuate that habit, making it more difficult for smokers to take the final step in the process and wean themselves off nicotine altogether. I would not recommend it as a way of quitting."

The cigs seem safe.

Are e cigs healthy?

I quit smoking almost 9 years ago with the patch. My sister told me about e cigs for my husband and I have noticed the same "healing effects" in him that I had when I quit. I had used the patch and a ton of gum.

While I am not a medical doctor and have not done any broad studies, I can give you the results from my sister and husband. They both have had improved taste in foods that they eat and both have had more energy and less coughing and wheezing. There was also a period when they were having phlem come up, about a week after they started with the e cigs. This had happened with me when I quit smoking. So far so good, but no one knows what the long term effects will be.

We do know that smoking regular cigs are very bad and that they give off second hand smoke. E cigs do not give off second hand smoke and only contain nicotine. I am sure they are not as good as quiting all together, but they do deem to be a better option then continueing to smoke the reg cigs.
